Terminal Tackle (631-269-6005): Terminal Tackle Co. opened its "doors" in 1985 with a nine page catalog and the idea they could fill a void in the fishing tackle marketplace. For the past seventeen years they've tried to offer hard-to-get items that nobody else carries. Their catalog has grown to 60 pages over the years, containing a very extensive selection of hooks, perhaps the best in the world and an enormous variety of lure and rig making components including molds and tying materials. If you want no-nonsense tackle at sensible prices, we think you’ll find our catalog to your liking. You can order by phone, fax, e-mail, or snail mail, or on-line at www.terminaltackleco.com. Terminal is open 7 days a week so stop in for a free catalogue of all their products. Call 631-269-6005 or e-mail hooks@terminal tackle co.com. Whether you fish from beach, boat or shore, or need help in salt or freshwater, Terminal Tackle has it all with a full line of baits, tackle and all the accessories you need. Smithtown Bait and Tackle offers quick access to Long Island Sound or freshwater lakes and streams just minutes from the shop.

Long Island North Fork:
Southold
We Go Fishing B&T (631-765-3918):
Steve reported fluking is okay if you put your time in and work the Ruins and Gardiner’s Island area. Many, many shorts so try larger strip baits like squid with the Peruvian spearing of 6 inches or so to up your chances. Work the hard rips for larger fish to 6 pounds or so. The porgy bite seems to be spotty and you have to search around to find the porgies as they seem to be on the move…most likely because of the bluefish that are so pervasive all through the bay system. Your best bets for porgies though is the south side of Fisher’s Island or Plum Island on the slack tide or the Sound side of the North Fork from Horton’s Point east to Orient.

Big bass 25 to 30 pounds are caught during the day off Horton’s Point using live eels, otherwise it is almost a strict night bite on the live eels or dark bucktails for mostly 15 to 20 pound fish, but they have weighed in some fish 25 to 30 pounds. Bluefish are everywhere on both sides of the North Fork, fish from Horton’s Point to Orient and all through the Peconic Bay system from Claudio’s to Roses Grove to Robin’s Island into the Race and Gut although more bluefish seem to be in the Pigeon Rip area and deep in 60 to 80 foot of water on diamond jigs and bigger choppers here as well to 12 pounds. They now have their web site back up and running at www.wegobait.com.

Know where they are...not where they were...

Keep up with "The Fishing Line"
