EAST END BEACHES
Montauk:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744): Scott says Willie Young of the MSA called to say last week there was a lot of fish on the south side in the rocky areas, not really on the sand beaches. Fish to 30 inches, no monsters, but there was a good number of fish and the best it’s been in a while. With winds from the NE on Sunday and Monday, Montauk could be blowing up right now as you read this. There has been fish here offshore and on the south side rocks, then add the NE winds at 25 to 30 and you have the optimum conditions for fishing. We might also getting an early fall as we have had more northerly winds than usual for July & August.

NEWS: East End Bait & Tackle’s 2nd Annual Fall Striped Bass Tournament- This year we will include two divisions, one for the surf and one for boats. This runs Sept. 15 - Nov. 20. Stop by the shop or give a call for more details. Teh big raffle drawing on August 22nd was won by Mike Maloney of Hampton Bays area. Mike has not yet decided which  package he wants. Open seven days now 5 a.m. weekends and 6 a.m. weekdays and we have extended our evening hours until 7 p.m. to better accommodate our customers. SOUTH SHORE BEACHES
Shinnecock / Hampton Bays / Moriches:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744):
Scott says the beaches to the east and west of the inlet are beginning to show some signs of life as anglers who put in their time have been rewarded with some schoolie bass. The canal and local creeks are all holding snappers. The north end of the canal is still your best bet for a shot at the porgies. The Ponquogue Bridge has produced fluke, blues, porgies and a few very small sea bass.

In Moriches: The inlet sees tons of big blues on tins and bucktails and out front on jigs and tins mixed with a few small bass. A 28 & 38 pound fish were weighed in with 200 to 300 bluefish to one bass ratio right now. This is all morning and daytime action as the night fishing has been terrible. Either the west side or the Cupsogue side will work with most of it though on the west side. The beach driving sees plenty of sand...no reason why the beach is closed between Cuts 2 & 3. Down at FINS still no access till Sept. 15.
