How They Voted On Saltwater LicenseFishing Line Message Boards: Here's what you've been waiting for...get those dialing fingers to work. The vote in the senate was 32 to 30 along party lines...all it would have taken was two Long Island senators to vote no and we would have NO SWL...the two most responsible were Craig John and Brian Foley! In the Assembly the two surprises...democrats of course Bob Sweeney and Harvey Wiesenberg. Here’s The Vote…

Surf Fishing This Season
Surf Fishing Reports This Season: With the closing of many tackle shops over the last season or two and many taking to the beach on foot now with the bad economy for boating, we need to band together and help each other as surfcasters. No tackle shop in Long Beach any more and the ones around the area are not really geared to surf fishing and they drop like flies every so often. I can’t be on every beach all the time so we need to help each other. Since many of you use the fishing reports off www.thefishingline.com and the phone Hotline Reports at 516-977-2088, I and many other surf anglers would sure appreciate it if we all would report our activities in a timely fashion. If you’re on a beach and it’s full of weed, please E mail me rich@thefishingline.com or call me from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 516-889-6895 or my cell at 516-435-8382. I’ll put the fishing and/or beach condition reports on the web site and the phone lines. We need to all help each other and be “eyes” on the beach for all of us. You can post them yourselves on our Message Boards at www.thefishingline.org and for NJ at www.NJanglers.org.

Rich Johnson's Report:
No fish really at all down here this week even when weather was good. A few stray fish in the West End 2 Pocket, a few scattered bass along the 7 mile stretch from Point Lookout to Debs and many hard core angers were out with no results hoping for a score as the storm approached Wednesday night into Thursday (11/12). Water was beautiful clean and weed free mid week and by Thursday afternoon on the start of the outgoing around 2:30 p.m., Point Lookout and Lido with east Long Beach was brown and dirty with weed while west Long Beach and AB were beautifully clean…both areas had no fish to speak of at all with nothing but complaints from all the surfcasters in the area.

Saturday (11/14) morning after the results of Friday night were able to be seen, waters were up to the PL parking lot, the boardwalk in Long Beach and right to the base of the dunes in AB. Water Saturday morning was black…literally black it was so dirty. Waves were still huge, the beaches battered and when this is al said and done…the beaches will be flat, shallow water everywhere and unless there is bait on the beach, any beach there will be no reason for fish to hang here…another dismal season in this area. Looking back at logs 2006 was the last decent year we had down here. It’s been downhill every year since including this one.

EAST END BEACHES
Montauk:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744):Willie Young of the MSA says earlier this week Montauk was on fire on the dropping tides Monday through Wednesday morning then died completely Wednesday afternoon. Best action was on the sand eels along the sand beaches with Nappeaque quite the hot area with fish to 38 pounds…that he knew of. Things are very quiet in Montauk the last day or two with no real action on Saturday (11/14) as waves were evil and not too many people tried fishing. A few small fish were caught on the north side Friday and Saturday morning, getting to Shagwong was impossible unless you wanted to walk the 2 miles. The bluffs are eaten away with what Willie called a 4 foot drop off on some of them as severe beach erosion occurred again but water on the north side he said was clean Saturday, it just didn’t look too fishy. Visit TFL's 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar.

They carry plugs by Gibbs, Super Strike, J-N-Ski, After Hours, Stillwater, Smack-it, Bomber & Yo-zuri.

SOUTH SHORE BEACHES
Shinnecock & Hampton Bays:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744):
Scott reported Friday (11/6) and most of this past week  the beaches can be alive at times with the best of it being 24 to 26 inch bass along the sandy beaches east of Shinnecock Inlet. Bucktails and tins are best as there is not much bait but the fish seem to be moving along here. This area seems to be the most consistent on the south shore of Long Island.

We have increased our surf fishing inventory to now include Aquaskinz tops and accessories; Northbar Plugs; as well as other surf fishing accessories. East End Bait & Tackle will be holding a Striper Bass surf fishing tournament starting Sept. 13 and running until Dec. 5. The entry fee will be $25. All collected monies will be returned as cash prizes. Stop by the shop or give us a call for more details. Visit Our 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar. They carry plugs by Gibbs, Super Strike, J-N-Ski, After Hours, Stillwater, Smack-it, Bomber & Yo-zuri. Hours are Monday to Friday is 7 to 7, Saturday is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday is now 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. On the web at www.eastendbaitandtackle.com

Moriches: East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744): Scott reported action has been just okay with some fish at the inlet and the east side of the inlet. Winds are hammering them this season and on Saturday (10/31) it was a gale from the SW at 25 to 30 taking away most of the beach. It is like a cliff walking out on these beaches and as of 2 p.m. Saturday they were still open. Hours are Monday to Friday is 7 to 7, Saturday is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday is now 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. On the web at www.eastendbaitandtackle.com. Visit Our 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar. They carry plugs by Gibbs, Super Strike, J-N-Ski, After Hours, Stillwater, Smack-it, Bomber & Yo-zuri. On the weekends.  www.eastendbaitandtackle.com

South Shore
Fire Island Inlet:

Robert Moses Beaches to
Tobay:
Frank & Dicks Bait & Tackle (631-587-8442): Bob from Bay Shore called to say Demo was closed on Friday (11/13), but he made the 50 minute walk any way. He scored nine (9) bass to 15 pounds on bucktails dragged along the bottom. He fished the bars just west of the jetty and there was the only clean water he found and tons of sand eels here too. He also said the up front on the RM beaches the water was too evil, sweep too hard, water too dirty and too high up on the beach to even think of fishing there. Visit Our 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar Visit them on the web at www.FranknDicks.com or call 631-587-8442 or hail them on VHF Ch. 71 when you're on the water.

Jones & Deb's Inlets:
Jones Beach:
Scotty's Fishing Station (516-432-4665): Tom reported Monday was unfishable all through this area. Tuesday (11/17) still had off colored water, fishable but like a light iced tea color, a new moon tide and strong currents. This morning also saw a left over heave and rollers, 4 to 5 footers on the beach and the surfers very happy. Weed is not that bad, but expect more of it to the east than the west. Beaches are very flat. Visit TFL's 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar

Point Lookout/Lido/Long Beach & Atlantic Beach:
Scotty's Fishing Station (516-432-4665): Tom reported Monday was unfishable all through this area. Tuesday (11/17) still had off colored water, fishable but like a light iced tea color, a new moon tide and strong currents. This morning also saw a left over heave and rollers, 4 to 5 footers on the beach and the surfers very happy. Weed is not that bad, but expect more of it to the east than the west. Beaches are very flat, looks like the same depth of water at high tide on the beach as it is at the tip of the jetty. Visit TFL's 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar

Rockaways/Breezy Point:
They had pretty good action on the back side of Breezy Point Wednesday (11/18) morning with both bass and bluefish. Blues to 8 pounds and a few keeper bass but most were just short using bucktails, diamond jigs and assorted tins. About 15 angels were picking away at 7 a.m. and we heard it was better before at first light and lasted a while after sunrise as well. The afternoon shift around 1:30 not many anglers were there nor any fish really caught. Not sure what happened later in the day. Thursday was a repeat of yesterday only it lasted longer and some larger fish as sand eels are packed in her and this is some of the best fishing right now on the western south shore of Long Island.

NORTH SHORE BEACHES

Western Sound:
City Island
Jack's Bait & Tackle
(718-885-2042):
John DeCuffa reported breaking news for surf fishermen. We've received reports of 25 to 30 pound bass being caught from the shoreline along Orchard Beach, New Rochelle and Eastchester Bay on Jack's famous fresh bunker so make sure to hit the shorelines now while these larger fish are in the feeding mood. Watch Jack's You Tube videos on his web site at www.jacksbaitandtackle.com. Visit Our 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar

John was featured on The Fishing Line TV Show in 2005. John & RJ scored big time on the giant bass with fish over 35 pounds in a few hours, 20 or more of them were keepers and they threw back keepers as well. You can order the extended home release video which is 55 minutes of non stop giant bass action.

Middle Long Island Sound:
Cold Spring/Northport/Huntington/Kings Park:
Terminal Tackle (631-269-6005)Terminal Tackle: John Richy reported the beaches are finally starting to get better bass catches and some decent sizes too. The bass are scattered here or there with no real hot spots. Some fish inside the river too on eels at night tossed like lures. Still bluefish around but they are starting to thin out and slide off the beaches. It is mainly a nighttime bite for bass with a few shorts during the day, but any keeper size or respectable schoolies are at night. All the beaches have fish but you never know what beach they will be at. Most anglers are using eels at night up here now.
They're open on their normal schedule of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closing at 2 p.m. on Sundays. On the web at www.terminaltackleco.com. Visit Our 24 Hour On Line Surf Seminar

Long Island Sound East:
Steve at We Go Fishing reported lots of good surf fishing on the north side of the North Fork. From Horton’s Point to Orient Point they have seen bonito and bluefish mixed with good results most of the trips anglers are making. Any north wind is exceptional as it pushes bait and gamefish up on the beach so keep that in mind. Not much to report right now with the bass from the beaches as they are still not moving or migrating and are in the deeper areas of the Race, Gut etc where they are supposed to be.

Know where they are...not where they were!
