EAST END BEACHES
Montauk:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744): Scott reports not much happening in Montauk right now with the exception of quite a few 6 to 7 pound bass. It has been a very inconsistent spring but when they show up they have them good…then they disappear for a week or more. The night shift has scored a few fish in to the 40 pound class…but only occasionally. There is a big heave on this weekend but hopefully that will settle down as we get into Monday. They carry plugs by Gibbs, Super Strike, J-N-Ski, After Hours, Stillwater, Smack-it, Bomber & Yo-zuri. New summer hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 5 a.m. to 6 on the weekends.  www.eastendbaitandtackle.com

SOUTH SHORE BEACHES
Shinnecock & Hampton Bays:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744):
Brian reported these area beaches are unusually quiet for this time of year. We usually see bass of quality size caught along the Hampton and Shinny beaches on pencil poppers at first light or some quality bass on clams during the day, but things are very quiet. Striped bass on clams, bucktails and chunks are cooperating with the best of it at night as you would expect. Bluefish are around the inlets at first light and again at dusk with tins and poppers scoring blues 2 to 5 pounds.

Moriches: East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744): Scott reports the Moriches beaches are quiet but seeing some bluefish around and a few stray bass. Clams off the beach at night is the best bet or poppers at first light score a few borderline keeper size. Things have slowed progressively over the last two weeks. The bunker showed off the beaches and around the Moriches Inlet Friday (6/26) late afternoon and anglers could snag some from the rocks. No bass reported from under these bunker…yet…as big blues to 12 pounds were already there. At the inlet the better action is at night on the bucktails and during the day clams will score keepers to 33 inches.

South Shore
Fire Island Inlet:

Robert Moses Beaches to
Tobay:
Frank & Dicks Bait & Tackle (631-587-8442): Bill reports things at Robert Moses seem to be very quiet. Water was very clean Friday and Saturday but the fish were not there…nor anglers either. Things are very quiet. The better bet is to fish the night shift with clams or chunks around the inlet or fish the back side of Gilgo and Tobay from the marshes and docklines. Small bass in here, waters are nice and clean and plenty of bait on the back sides too! Visit them on the web at www.FranknDicks.com or call 631-587-8442 or hail them on VHF Ch. 71 when you're on the water.

Jones & Deb's Inlets:
Jones Beach:
Scotty's Fishing Station (516-432-4665): Tom reported the surf has been dirty with weed, weed and more weed just about everywhere from Point Lookout to Atlantic Beach. The beaches were filthy on Thursday (6/25). The inlets are the best place to be with bluefish…all you want and good size from 4 to 12 pounds on tins, bucktails and poppers. On the web at www.scottysmarina.com.

Point Lookout/Lido/Long Beach & Atlantic Beach:
Scotty's Fishing Station (516-432-4665):
Tom reported things have not been good with lots of weed on the beaches and in the water from Point Lookout all the way to Atlantic Beach. Friday and Saturday (6/27) were terrible with weeds, bit eel grass on the beach and spinach in the water. Best bet is to fish at the inlets or fish at the bottom of the tide, say form then last hour of outgoing to the first 2 hours of incoming. This means there’s less weed in the water as it has been left on the beach. If you fish at other times the ocean just reclaims the wed on the beach making it that much worse. We have not heard of much action anywhere for that fact with a few 6 to 7 pound bass on poppers, which is about all you can throw in this weed. On the web at www.scottysmarina.com.

NORTH SHORE BEACHES

Western Sound:
City Island
Jack's Bait & Tackle
(718-885-2042):
John DeCuffa reported breaking news for surf fishermen. We've received reports of 25 to 30 pound bass being caught from the shoreline along Orchard Beach, New Rochelle and Eastchester Bay on Jack's famous fresh bunker so make sure to hit the shorelines now while these larger fish are in the feeding mood. Watch Jack's You Tube videos on his web site at www.jacksbaitandtackle.com

John was featured on The Fishing Line TV Show in 2005. John & RJ scored big time on the giant bass with fish over 35 pounds in a few hours, 20 or more of them were keepers and they threw back keepers as well. You can order the extended home release video which is 55 minutes of non stop giant bass action.

Middle Long Island Sound:
Cold Spring/Northport/Huntington/Kings Park:
Terminal Tackle (631-269-6005)Terminal Tackle:
John Richy reported the beaches here are giving up blues, bass or porgies depending on what you like. Just after first light porgies to 2 pounds are tight to the beach and taking worms or clams. Bass fishing is mostly at night or at first light on black Bombers, bucktails, sluggo’s or now pencil poppers. Bass on the T Bar, Mackamaw, Callahan’s etc and you have to fish at night or through sunrise, then after that the small blues take over the beaches and they will find you no matter what beach you stand on. If you don't see a bluefish in 20 minutes wait 10 more and they will find you. The area down at the river is infested with cocktail blues. They're open on their normal schedule of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closing at 2 p.m. on Sundays. On the web at www.terminaltackleco.com.
