Take Our Angler Survey
:
The Fishing Line in conjunction with
Southwick Associates has put together a series of Angler Surveys to
gather important info on your angling habits in order to present to the
powers that be, detailed info on why we should be getting more recognition
from local, state and federal government and authorities. Just click on the
banner at left to be transported to register and take the survey for
The Fishing Line. As incentives for people to respond to each
monthly survey, ten $100 gift certificates are awarded each month to
randomly drawn respondents to the outdoor retailer of their choice,
including local shops. For each month a person takes the survey, they are
entered into the year-end drawing for a $1,000 gift certificate to the
outdoor retailer of the winner’s choice. The online surveys are partnering
with
The Fishing Line to help learn more about anglers’ needs and
opinions on conservation and fisheries management issues.

OVERVIEW
:
The weather has been warm and the water temperature
is rising. Herring and Pogies have been spotted. Everyone is excited, but
with the exception of the river and salt pond holdovers the stripers are in
small and scattered schools. I scouted the West Wall, Potters Pond and the
Narrow River yesterday morning. I can tell you it was a beautiful day to be
outside! I did see a fair amount of shrimp at Potters and a few small pods
of baitfish, but other than that, I did not see a fish. If anyone is
willing to share their good news, send in your reports to me at
yabuticus@hotmail.com
and we’ll put it up on the site.
NARRAGANSETT BAY:
Providence/Warwick/Bristol/Newport:
A couple of regular charter captains have run into schoolies
in Greenwich Bay and at Conimicuit Point. Billy Silver sighted pogies
running outside of Bristol Harbor. Shops have been selling a lot of crabs
and getting some reports of Tautog with catches in the Bristol, Narrows and
at Conimicuit Point. White perch have been
plentiful in the upper reaches of the Providence River, Narrow River and
Palmer River. Those fishing the Providence River, especially at the power
plant continue to take holdovers. You can’t go wrong with Cocahoe Minnows
and white plastics near the bottom.
Schoolie Stripers are there to be had at
the West Wall, East Matunick and at Carpenters Beach, Newport 1st and 2nd
Beaches and also in the Green River. The fish are small and scattered. Ray’s
Fly or anything white should do it for the fly guys. The Herring are here in
big numbers, so we should start to see bigger numbers of stripers and bigger
stripers very soon.
SOUTH SHORE BEACHES
Narragansett/Charlestown/Westerly:
Things are still slow. Reports have seen a few stripers off
the West Wall and at Cemetery Cove, but there just its not a whole lot of
fish here yet. The best action has been at the West Wall and Potters Pond
for schoolies and those fishing Cocahoes at sun up have had the best
success. The charter boats should be hitting the water in a week or two, so
there is nothing to report from the boaters.
