Take Our Angler Survey: The Fishing Line in conjunction with Southwick Associates has put together a series of Angler Surveys to gather important info on your angling habits in order to present to the powers that be, detailed info on why we should be getting more recognition from local, state and federal government and authorities. Just click on the banner at left to be transported to register and take the survey for The Fishing Line. As incentives for people to respond to each monthly survey, ten $100 gift certificates are awarded each month to randomly drawn respondents to the outdoor retailer of their choice, including local shops. For each month a person takes the survey, they are entered into the year-end drawing for a $1,000 gift certificate to the outdoor retailer of the winner’s choice. The online surveys are partnering with The Fishing Line to help learn more about anglers’ needs and opinions on conservation and fisheries management issues.

Greg reported Monday and Tuesday (5/6) they had good conditions and had the same slaughter type fishing as they continue to see fantastic ling fishing with a few sea bass scattered in with some sea flounder and bluefish to make things interesting. Just stupid super fishing right now! The benefit of the full day Ocean Eagle is you get the full day to fill the bucket with a variety of species! They sail every day at 7 a.m. from Pier 5 in Sheepshead Bay.

Flamingo III (718-763-8745)Capt. Bob WiegandFlamingo III: Capt. Bob reports Wednesday a light crowd of 14 anglers enjoyed super duper awesome fishing on bluefish 3 to 8 pounds and they could have been back at the dock by 10 a.m. it was so good. They did have two keeper bass and five shorts and were back early by 1 p.m. Weather kept them tied up Thursday and Friday…BUT Saturday they had slam bang bluefishing on choppers with fish all along the NY side running large with fish today from 3 to 12 pounds. They did have one keeper bass among all these choppers. They sail daily now at 6:30 a.m. returning around 2 p.m. The web site is www.Flamingo3.com.

Capt. Tom Weiss reported Wednesday was very good fishing with a lot more sea bass showing up seemingly over night. Good catches of sea bass with a few bluefish mixed in and some ling. The sea bass run anywhere from shorts to 3 pounds or better with the average angler seeing 75% keeper sea bass and full buckets. Thursday & Friday they did not sail. Saturday (5/10) was beautiful day and the ocean was laying down with a light crowd of people. They ALL had full buckets of sea bass to 4-1/2 pounds!! They had a few ling, a few codfish and the pool was a 6 pound cod along with a handful of blues.

Lady J V (516-825-5727)Go to Lady J V: Capt. Pat reports hey are making the switch over to fluke with the start of the season this Thursday May 15. They will continue on their regular three quarter day schedule of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make sure you call ahead to make sure they are sailing. NOW is the time to make those inquisitions and reservations for the 2008 season or best dates and times or tides and full moon trips. Pat will see you again in the spring for the fluke season. Senior citizens over the age of 62 can park free weekdays at Captree State Park by just showing their driver's license.

Island Princess (631-587-6024): Capt. Nick Manzari reports they are making the switch over to fluke with the start of the season this Thursday May 15. They will continue on their regular half day schedule for fluke sailing at 7 a.m. and again at noon. Also just a note to say their NEW second boat, the Bay Princess specializes in private charters up to 80 passengers. They started the night trips with Capt. Brian Sorice at the helm last Friday (5/2) night and had very good fishing of bluefish 3 to 6 pounds. This was a good start to the night trips as a light crowd had good action in unpleasant conditions. Every night now 6 to 10 p.m.

Bay Princess (631-587-6024): Capt. Nick Manzari reports this will be run as a charter boat for up to 80 anglers with Sweet 16 parties, fishing trips, moonlight cruises, retirement and just about any excuse to get on the water gets you folks this great new and clean boat. Available for half and full day fishing trips, this new addition at Captree is a comfortable 65 footer that is of course USCG certified with all the latest safety and fish finding equipment and electronics. They will have fish cleaning services, enclosed heated lounge and galley with clean and separate ladies and men’s rooms. North Shore
City Island:
Island Current Fleet (917-417-7557): 
Capt. Chris Cullen reported on Tuesday (5/8) they will continue with their flounder fishing at 8 a.m. and the night bassing at 6:30 for the time being NOT making the switch to fluke. They did not sail on Monday or Monday night  because of the weather. Sailing everyday at 8 AM for flounder and our 2008 brochures are printed and to receive our newsletter and promotions please sign in under the contact link on the boats website www.islandcurrent.com.

Night bass fishing has been inconsistent but with pool fish running 20 to 25 pounds and a 55 pounder weighed in at Jacks on Wednesday, we expect this should break open any night. Sailing every evening at 6:30 PM for striped bass.

The Ultimate in Party/Charter Fishing for the western Long Island Sound region. Capt. Chris Cullen's new 50-foot Island Current II (up to 49 passengers) and the original Island Current I (up to 21 passenger) offer fantastic fishing close to home. Riptide III (718-885-0236): Capt. John Jorgensen of the Riptide III reported on Tuesday (5/8) they will continue with their flounder fishing at 8 a.m. and the night bassing at 6:30 for the time being NOT making the switch to fluke. They did not sail on Monday or Monday night  because of the weather. The fishing overall had been getting better till the savage storm of Friday (5/9) stirred everything up and made water off color. They had a tough day on flounder trip Saturday and they were planning to sail Saturday night at 6:30 as they usually do seven nights per week and the bass fishing is set to explode with the shift to westerly winds on Sunday.  On the web at www.RipTide3.com

The Riptide III sails from the first left over the City Island Bridge at Jorgensen's Landing in City Island, “The Gateway to the Long Island Sound." The Riptide III fishes daily and offers sunset and moonlight charters. The Riptide III is safe and comfortable with a full kitchen and bar and a DJ on our cruises. They are currently sailing for flounder every day full day and starting this Saturday will start poking around some local wrecks and reefs for blackfish with combo flounder/tog trips based on tides. Middle Long Island Sound
Huntington:
Capt. James Joseph (631-424-1253)
: Capt. James Schneider reports they are making the switch over to fluke with the start of the season this Thursday May 15. They will continue on their regular full day schedule but now for fluke sailing at 7 a.m. They will also start the afternoon trips at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday as well and yes that will sail for fluke as well.

The charter trips for bass this past week on the 35 foot James Joseph 3 started to see some bass as they picked away in CSH. They had some keepers and all nice fish to 25 pounds as the numbers of big fish are not here yet but will and should be any day now.

She is all rigged and ready to go round the clock chunking for stripers as soon as they show up in the western Sound in April. The Capt. Port Jefferson:
Celtic Quest (631-928-3926): Capt. Desi reported they are making the switch over to fluke with the start of the season this Thursday May 15. Plenty of room on most trips. You can make reservations for these trips on line with their reservation system on the web site at www.celticquestfishing.com.

On their site you can also see the updated calendar and how many spots are left for each trip.  We hope this makes the reservation process a lot easier for everyone. Also remember the the newest addition last year...the Celtic Quest III, a super fast 25 foot mako center console available for private charters!  We will also run some open boat trips on the CQ III when it is not chartered. We are still working out the details on its schedule and will post more definite information very soon. Look for them on the web at www.celticquestfishing.com.

Osprey (631-331-4153): Capt. Amanda Cash reports they will be sailing with the opening of the fluke season on May 15 and their schedule will be weekdays 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 till dark. On the weekends they run two half day trips at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. along with the 4:30 p.m. trips. June 15 the afternoon trips at 4:30 will switch right over to porgies. Peconic Star II (631- 289-6899): Capt. Dave Brennan reports they will be sailing with the opening of the fluke season on Thursday May 15 and their schedule will be daily at 7:30 a.m. till 3 p.m. They are working on the boat with paint and little odds and ends and gearing up for the start of the fluke season.
