Jones Inlet
Point Lookout
Capt. Al (516-623-2248): Capt. Tom Weiss they sailed Saturday and fishing was slow with some ling caught in very cold water and lots of cod water run off from the Hudson River. Sunday’s (3/7) fishing in beautiful weather was a bit better with a few cod and a few handfuls of ling caught. What we need is some easterly winds and fog which would warm waters quicker. Warm, sunnier days melt snow and ice upstate and the river becomes very cold and with fresh water bring heavier than salt, it flows along the bottom. That’s why fishing can be slow this time of year! They continue on their winter three (3) day schedule of Friday through Sundays at 7 a.m. for the remainder of the winter season.

Listen to Capt. Al Lindroth's radio Interview explanation for the return of Long Island codfish Click Here. Listen here to Capt. Al's Radio Interview for Tips on Sea Bass Fishing. Capt. Tom Weiss was featured on The Fishing Line TV Show in 2001. Tom & RJ scored big time on the giant sea bass with ling in the mix. You can order the extended home release video which is longer than the 30 minute show version by clicking the link.

Montauk
Capt. Lou 6 (516-623-5823):
Capt. Mike Wasserman says on Sunday (3/7) the Capt. Lou 6 wound up at almost Coxes Ledge, very slow pick in the morning but as the day progressed they found a pod of fish, drifted and picked up to 20 cod per drift. The Capt. Lou 6 wound up staying out till 7pm to make sure our customers went home with cod and after a tough morning the average person went home with five to seven cod. On Tuesday’ cod trip they had another incredible slammer trip! The boat limited out again with a private charter! At sunrise the bite was fierce as they had a good 200 keepers on board early and then the bite slowed to a steady pick. After the tide change, larger fish moved in and they had a "reel" good bite! Boat had almost 400 keepers with a lot of shorts mixed in, but everyone was able to retain their limit. Honorable mentions go to Larry Lugwick & Lloyd Maslin of Woodmere had their limit with cod to 18 pounds. The pool winner was 20 plus pounds by Kenny Owens. Mr. McKeon and Alan Dempsey all got on the bigger fish bite. Congratulations to all and Thank you to all who joined us today!

Wednesday’s (3/10) fishing was slow as they had a full boat and a quick shot of fish at sunrise. It then slowed down to a steady, but slow pick that died out all together. We marked the fish on the fish finder but the fish were just not biting. The fish are definitely there, there was also a lot of commercial gear in the water. We have cancelled our trips for Friday (3/12), Saturday & Sunday due to weather. Please call the office to make your reservations for Thursday. Spots available for Thursday! The Capt. Lou 6 is now sailing every day by reservations, every day of the week. The Capt. Lou 6 has ONLY few (4) open spots left for the 24 hour tilefish trip on April 9. They have upcoming 24 hour tile fish trips in April and May so call the captain for details.
