How They Voted On Saltwater License: Here's what you've been waiting for...get those dialing fingers to work. The vote in the senate was 32 to 30 along party lines...all it would have taken was two Long Island senators to vote no and we would have NO SWL...the two most responsible were Craig John and Brian Foley! In the Assembly the two surprises...democrats of course Bob Sweeney and Harvey Wiesenberg. Here’s The Vote…

TFL Worming Trip On Capt. James Joseph Results: Had a good time with a good group of guys last night on our worming trip. Matty T and his dad Matty had some fish, the Willie T group from Garden City had three keepers among them with Otto catching one and Mike a sweetwater bass guy the other. It was fast and furious at times although the gentle east wind against the outgoing tide did not help us. The hard winds we wanted came in at the very end of out rips. First SW then hard NW and either one of them blowing at 5 p.m. when we hit the grounds would have produced slaughter fishing and more keepers I’m sure. As it was I had 10 bass to 26 inches, most on board at 5 to nine bass or so in what I would call a “fast” pick. There seemed to be one to three fish on at any time on each drift. Including the captain and Big Joe the total for the boat was 65 bass or so and 8 keepers on the boat. We did come home in a gale that came on like they flipped the switch and blew 35 to 50 with horizontal driving rain for the 50 minutes it took us to get home. You guys missed a good trip with some good people.

Long Island Sound West:
City Island, Little Neck, Manhasset & Western Sound:
Jack's Bait & Tackle (718-885-2042): John DeCuffa reports a
s we enter the month of November blackfish, bluefish and striped bass fishing will continue to improve until it slows down towards the end of the month.  As of November 2 the blackfishing is definitely at its best as fish are being caught up to 10-1/2 pounds in 20 to 50 feet of water. The water temperature now is 55 degrees and with a cool week ahead of us the temperature will continue to drop and this will cause the tog to move deeper until they are 80-100 feet of water in December.  Right now the best bait is green crabs, fiddler crabs and Asian crabs. The best areas are Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, Hens and Chicken, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye and all the way up the coast of Connecticut as far east as Norwalk.  This has definitely been some of the best blackfishing in years due to the overabundance of east winds. So make sure to get out and take advantage of this great fishing because time is limited!

On the bluefish and striped bass front they’re catching fish in the middle of Long Island Sound behind Execution Lighthouse in 60 foot of water with fresh bunker, mackerel and Jack's Jumbo sand and bloodworms. These fish are moving through the Sound heading towards the ocean as water temperatures drop. This bite should last at least another couple of weeks until the water temperature gets below 50 degrees. The same holds true for blackfish.

Jack’s will be renting boats for at least a few more weeks, weather permitting 6 am to 4 pm. Party boats like the Riptide 3 will continue to sail until at least the end of November and maybe December if the fishing holds out.  Watch for our huge "End of Year Holiday Sale" with10 to 30% off everything in stock from Thanksgiving thru December 20th! Our November store hours are 5 am to 6 pm seven days a week. Get out while you can as this fishing season comes to an end. They are keeping their same prices as last year of only $49.99 weekdays and $59.99 weekends!! Many of those early pluggers have been seeing nothing. Watch Jack's You Tube videos on his web site at www.jacksbaitandtackle.com

Riptide III (718-885-0236): Capt. John Jorgensen of the Riptide III says blackfishing continues to be very, very good with most on board scoring limits and everybody has a few blackfish to go home with. Size is increasing now too as pool winners are hitting the 8 pound mark. They are sailing daily now, full day local blackfishing at 8 a.m. and returning about 4:30 for a really full day of blackfish.

The night trips for blues are done for the season unless you want to charter the boat. There are plenty of blues to be caught if you want them, but for now they are blackfishing daily. On the web at www.Riptide3.com.

The Riptide III is safe and comfortable with a full kitchen and bar and a DJ on our cruises. Master Captain Carl Madsen and crew has been running the Riptide III since 1985. The Jorgensen/Madsen families have been fishing western Long Island Sound over four (4) generations! We have plenty of free & safe parking at our pier the first left over the City Island Bridge at Jorgensen's Landing in City Island. Daily fishing 8 am and nightly 6:30 pm please call to check for availability. On the web at www.RipTide3.com

Long Island Sound Middle: John Richey joins Rich Johnson weekly, live on The Fishing Line Radio Show Saturday afternoons at 4:30 p.m. to give current and live updated reports for the Huntington to Kings Park & Stony Brook areas.

Cold Spring / Huntington / Northport / Smithtown / Kings Park / Stony Brook:
Saturday afternoons 4:45 p.m on TFL Radio on 1240AM WGBB.

Terminal Tackle (631-269-6005)Terminal Tackle: John Richey reported bluefish are everywhere and you can jig all you want in the Triangle, Cranes and even the Middle Grounds. These are BIG blues to the teens and this will continue for another few weeks before the schoolie bass will take over. You can troll wire or jig they are everywhere with fish 4 to 14 pounds. Inside the bays the bluefishing is thinning out as it is mostly in the Sound now. Striped bass is okay and if you are jigging or trolling wire for blues you’ll find some bass and a keeper once in a while. Most are trolling large tubes or live eels with the best action on the eels. Bas on eels in the river too and while it is not red hot, it is getting better than it was because the bluefish herds are thinning out. Shad in the river now too.

Blackfishing has been really good! They are still shallow in 20 to 40 foot of water and no need to go deeper and green crabs are king. If you use fiddler the porgies will take them off the hook within seconds. No need to use anything except green crabs. They did see tog to 9 pounds but no double digits weighed in but they have heard of a few but most are 4 to 8 pounds and in good numbers and of course lots of shorts in most spots. If you can find a spot that is not hammered you’ll find decent size fish. Listen to John's Fall Blackfishing Tips Here. They're open on their normal schedule of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closing at 2 p.m. on Sundays. On the web at www.terminaltackleco.com.

Capt. James Joseph (631-424-1253): Capt. James Schneider reports Sunday’s fishing was a decent day of action as there were many boats on the water in the nice weather.  They did have limits for most on the boat for sure with lost of action around the rails as well. Monday (11/2) they had 20 people with 75 to 80 keepers so they just about limited out the boat. The large tog were in the deeper water with a good mix of fish and action on the shallower rocky bottoms. Plenty of action on shorts and lots of fish caught. They are sailing for blackfish daily now at 7 a.m. full days with no more afternoon trips at 4:30 scheduled because of the early sunsets. They will take charter trips through if you like for bass and blues, but for now it's blackfish daily at 7 a.m. On the web at www.JamesJosephFishing.com.

Long Island Sound East:
Port Jefferson:
Celtic Quest (631-928-3926):
Capt. Desi O’Sullivan reports the time is here! The blackfish bite really turned on Wednesday (10/14) as 23 anglers had 84 keepers on the day. Bob Collins was high hook with 13 keeper size tog with lots of nice fish in the mix.  Plenty of porgies and some sea bass as well. With the closing of the porgy season in NY we will be targeting blackfish now. The weather has been terrible to say the least with a moon on Sunday (10/18). In a few days everything is set up now for a nice hit of fish. Looks like we might be blown out thru the weekend, but when we get back out there it should be good!  Hope to see you soon for some Tog! Open reservations can be made for these trips on our the online reservation system on our web site at www.celticquestfishing.com. On our site you can also see our updated calendar and how many spots are left for each trip. We hope this makes the reservation process a lot easier for everyone. Long Island North Fork:
Greenport:
Peconic Star II (631- 289-6899): Capt. Dave Brennan reports they are now blackfishing Fridays through Tuesdays only on their regular time slot of 7:30 a.m. from the Greenport railroad Dock and return at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday’s (10/20) blackfishing was good with a lot of fish caught for a very light crowd. Pool winner about 6 to 7 pounds and green crabs the tickets. Friday (10/23) they did get out with only seven (7) anglers...that's right seven on a vessel like that means lots of fish and lots of elbow room. Everybody had their limits of blackfish and the pool winner was Rich Maddio with a 7 pounder. They did not sail on Saturday (10/24). Caught on Peconic Star on Sunday (10/25) were these nice blackfish with second from left Steve Melander of Delaware with a 10.45 pounder and “Big” Dave Roys of Moriches (Silly Lily) with tog of 9.2 and 8.80 and many on the boat limited out this trip! Lots of safe and FREE parking! On the web at www.peconicstar.com.

Capt. Dave Brennan has been featured on The Fishing Line TV Show scoring big time on giant porgies. You can order the extended home release video which is longer than the 30 minute show version by clicking the link. After sailing on the Peconic Star II, we're sure you will agree that there is no finer fishing vessel. Should they ever get around to giving awards for the friendliest and most helpful crew aboard a party boat, Fishing Line Message Boardsthe crew on the Peconic Star II will get the blue ribbon for sure. Forever preoccupied with making every trip a pleasant and personal adventure, one not soon forgotten; the crew leaves nothing to chance, from instructions for the novice and the rigging up, to cleaning your catch ready for the skillet. The crew insures that not only the fishermen enjoy their trip, but the families as well… so bring the kids and Mom along… it's always fun and a big thrill for them. Don't forget the camera, and if you don't fish, come along for a delightful ride and enjoy the scenic delights of Long Island's last outpost of natural beauty. On the web at www.peconicstar.com.
