Take Our Angler Survey :
The Fishing Line in conjunction with
Southwick Associates has put together a series of Angler Surveys to
gather important info on your angling habits in order to present to the
powers that be, detailed info on why we should be getting more recognition
from local, state and federal government and authorities. Just click on the
banner at left to be transported to register and take the survey for
The Fishing Line. As incentives for people to respond to each
monthly survey, ten $100 gift certificates are awarded each month to
randomly drawn respondents to the outdoor retailer of their choice,
including local shops. For each month a person takes the survey, they are
entered into the year-end drawing for a $1,000 gift certificate to the
outdoor retailer of the winner’s choice. The online surveys are partnering
with
The Fishing Line to help learn more about anglers’ needs and
opinions on conservation and fisheries management issues.

Jack's Bait &
Tackle
(718-885-2042) :
John DeCuffa reported no more cows like the 55 pounder weighed in at
4 p.m. on Wednesday (5/7) by Pasqual Podoto caught using bunker at high tide
around 1 p.m. in the area by the Throgs Neck Bridge, but there is plenty of
action now on the bass. Bass fishing is now on the
rise with action at the Throgs Neck Bridge and Stepping Stones
in the channels of 30 foot of water with
fresh bunker the only way to go.
The weather has been poor
but look for this area to explode around
Wednesday. There are bluefish in this area now mixed in over the last 48
hours.
Flounder fishing has
been good on
sandworms and chum in the back of Larchmont Harbor and the action is good
with shorts along with that! Decent fishing now
on the later part of the outgoing tides and late afternoon tides when waters
get warmer in the sunshine. Flounder action has been good inside
the back of the harbors like Little Neck and Hempstead or north to Larchmont
and Mamaroneck or the better area of the entire strip of Bayville has some nice flounder fishing.
Hempstead
Harbor to Glen Cove:
Baitfish abound in
local bays attracting striped bass to just beyond legal size. Jose Reis used
a bunker chunk on his hook just north of Morgan’s Park, quickly nailed and
landed a 36 inch bass and promptly went home to a fish dinner. Fifteen-year-old
Taylor Merillo, fishing in the same general area, landed his very first
keeper bass of 29 inches on a bunker chunk. Attaway, Taylor! Flounder, too
are frequenting Morgan’s Beach as Mike Pascucci and Edgar Roca can attest.
Using sandworms, Mike took three keepers to 2.1
pounds while Edgar had four fish to 17 inches.
With a thinning out of bunker schools, it appears that bluefish may be on
the doorstep.
You can now shop on line at
www.jacksbaitandtackle.com. Their hours now are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. The
skiffs are ready for your flounder fishing! They do have all their skiffs in
the water already and prices this year will be the same with $49.99 weekdays
and 59.99 weekends. NO INCREASE in rental skiff price! See them or buy tackle on the web at
www.jacksbaitandtackle.com.
See John's You Tube Videos as well.
John was featured on
The Fishing Line TV Show in 2005. John & RJ scored big time on the
giant bass with
fish over 35 pounds in a few hours, 20 or more of them were keepers and they threw
back keepers as well. You can order the extended home
release video which is 55 minutes of non stop giant bass action.

continue with their flounder fishing at 8 a.m. and the night bassing at 6:30
for the time being NOT making the switch to fluke. They did not sail on
Monday or Monday night because of the weather.
The fishing overall had been getting better till
the savage storm of Friday (5/9) stirred everything up and made water off
color. They had
a tough day on flounder trip Saturday and they were planning to sail
Saturday night at 6:30 as they usually do seven nights per week and the bass
fishing is set to explode with the shift to westerly winds on Sunday.

Terminal Tackle
(631-269-6005) :
John Richey reported
on Saturday pretty much
everything stands as is from the weekend. Bass
fishing is the best it can be for this time of year with fish to 35 inches,
most are 28 to 32 inches and depends on the batch of fish you find. The bluefish
moved in and very early this season. Bluefish 6 to 10 pounds in tight to the
beach which is unusual as they usual hover in the deep Sound driving anglers
nuts. Lots of bait moved in here as well over the last 48 hours and things
are busting wide open. Bass fishing gets better every
single day. There are
some catchable fish to be jigged on the deeper water structures in 20 to 50
foot area so you have to bounce around and find these different areas. Some
of the fish are schoolies with some keepers mixed in to 34 inches.
In tighter there are
schoolies with the rare 28 to 30 inch fish, but most are smaller and the
most dependable area is the stretch from Crab Meadow to the Power Plant...all
the beaches are producing from boat or beach, but you have to be very tight
to the beach! Night and early morning is best! There are fish caught in the other areas to the west at Cold Spring
Harbor and Caumsett. East of the Kings Park area there are a few bass in
Stony Brook Harbor on bucktails and the sandworms on the troll or rubber but
no real word inside the river yet. You have to work near the bottom as fish
are deep no matter where you fish. Listen to John's
Fall Blackfishing Tips Here.
They're open on their normal
schedule of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closing at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

fish to 25 pounds as the numbers of big fish are not here yet but will and
should be any day now.

Southold
We Go Fishing B&T
(631-765-3918):
Steve reports things are improving
now as there is a ton of bluefish in the area and we mean all areas running
5 to 7 pounds. A few weakfish over in Rose’s Grove on sandworms or diamond
jig and there is a ton of fluke and we mean big fluke already here. The
commercial guys are scoring 8 to 12 pounders with one 13 pounder caught.
Some anglers are catch and releasing fluke to 10 pounds with 50% caught now
being the keeper size of 20-1/2 inches. No bass news yet. They are running a
normal schedule of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day and they are ready to go if
you folks are. They now have their
new site up and running at

we're sure you will agree that there is no finer fishing vessel. Should
they
ever get around to giving awards for the friendliest and most helpful crew
aboard a party boat, the crew on the Peconic Star II will get the blue
ribbon for sure. Forever preoccupied with making every trip a pleasant and
personal adventure, one not soon forgotten; the crew leaves nothing to
chance, from instructions for the novice and the rigging up, to cleaning
your catch ready for the skillet. The crew insures that not only the
fishermen enjoy their trip, but the families as well… so bring the kids and
Mom along… it's always fun and a big thrill for them. Don't forget the
camera, and if you don't fish, come along for a delightful ride and enjoy
the scenic delights of Long Island's last outpost of natural beauty. On the web at
