Rich Johnson: Rich is a sponsor and producer of the NY National Boat Show and their Boating & Fishing Educational Series the last dozen years and host of the 16 year running television and his radio shows The Fishing Line. Rich has 40 years fishing experience in salt and freshwater and specializes in many species from boat or beach. Al Ristori: Capt. Al Ristori of Manasquan Park, NJ has been the Saltwater editor of NJs Star-Ledger since 1984 and is a regional editor of Salt Water Sportsman. Al Ristori has appeared on The Fishing Line radio & TV shows, his books include North American Saltwater Fishing; The Saltwater Fish Identifier; Fishing for Bluefish and several others. Ristori charters the 35-foot charter boat out of Highlands, N.J. specializing in striped bass and school tuna.

Capt. James Schneider: Capt. Jim has been fishing LI Sound his entire life and his knowledge of local waters is unsurpassed. Commercial fishing and captaining party boats for 30 years, when it comes to innovating new techniques and adjusting to different species, Captain James has the skill set to adapt and has done so successfully. Countless numbers of fluke over 10 pounds with the largest 15-1/4 pounds, his blackfishing and anchoring skills are second to none. Capt. Roger Gendron: Captain Roger Gendron of CT has been actively guiding the waters of Western Long Island Sound since 1989.  A local who has spent his entire life in this area, he started fly fishing the coast of Fairfield County Connecticut over 30 years ago, and was one of the first guides in the area to specialize in fly fishing and light tackle fishing in shallow salt water for striped bass and bluefish. www.ctislandoutfitters.com.

Captain Joe Shastay: A new addition to the NY Boat Show, Capt. Joe of NJ has been fishing the East River and Upper New York Harbor as a charter captain over 30 years. With Joes knowledge of the harbor waters, you'll have a great opportunity to land the "big one" after attending his lectures. The areas Joe fishes read like a sightseer's handbook: The Statue of Liberty, United Nations Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, South Street Seaport and Ellis Island are all within a cast length with Joes fishing waters and all hold quality bass and bluefish. The northeast's premier boating event takes place January 4-8 at the Javits Center, which will be transformed into a boat lover's oasis for five days of warm weather fun. An annual tradition for new and seasoned boaters, the Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show provides deals on hundreds of boats, gear and accessories from the region's premier dealers and retailers, interactive courses covering all-things boating, and attractions for the whole family.  The 2012 show will feature the best in boating, sailing and fishing, providing visitors a unique opportunity to board and compare a variety of boats side by side at competitive bargains and search out exclusive show specials on the latest luxury motor and sailing yachts, sport fishers, performance boats, marine accessories, gear and electronics.  New features include DIY seminars at Fred's Shed and a chance to meet Robbie and Stephen Keszey, the wild brothers from Discovery Channel's hit series, Swamp Brothers.  "There's no better place for thousands of area boaters to get their boating fix in the off-season," says Jon Pritko, show manager. NEW! Paddlepalooza! - Stand-up paddling and SUP yoga continue to sweep the nation as the hottest trends in fitness and on-the-water activities. Downunder Paddling of CT is offering free demonstrations and the chance for attendees to test their balance on a simulated body of water! Daily demos include introductions and advanced techniques of Stand-Up Paddling (SUP), which combines surfing and kayaking. Plus, watch yoga instructors show off their best downward-facing dog on the water with SUP Yoga; catch a demo of the PaddleFit program, an exercise that focuses on core power; and learn new techniques to increase speed and race competitively in the sport of SUP. NEW! Pre-show Premier Boating Workshops: Beginners and experienced boaters alike can take their on-the-water skills to the next level with a variety of three-hour interactive workshops offered by The Annapolis School of Seamanship Jan. 6-8 from 9am-Noon. Attendees can learn the basic tricks to maneuver a boat in close quarters, how to operate and maintain marine diesel fuel systems, participate in hands-on demonstrations for anchoring and line handling, and will get a look at some modern navigational electronics. Cost: $85 per person and includes two days of show admission, a three-hour intensive workshop, instructional take away items, and a $25 gift certificate for classes at Annapolis School of Seamanship.Pre-registration is required for all workshops.See schedule here

Boating for beginners, boaters on a budget: The Welcome to the Water Center is a must-attend for boaters just getting started who want to learn how to make the most of their time on the water, and for those with smaller budgets. Highlights include:

   * Local resources to help new boaters navigate their boating lifestyle

   * Boating on a Budget Showcase:Think owning a boat is out of reach? Visitors can research and shop a variety of boats that can be financed for $250 or less per month.

Power Boat Docking Challenge: New and experienced boaters can become more confident behind the helm at the Power Boat Docking Challenge. This interactive experience pits show participants against one another, who compete against the clock, steering and docking a 4-ft, twin engine, remote-controlled power boat from an actual life-size boat helm down a 20-ft.pool into a marina and ultimately a slip.
