New Jersey Reef Blackfish
: Our season premier show for 2002 is a trip we took with my guest Capt. Henry
Feeney, long time friend, professional captain and fishing expert. We shot the show in
late November where water temp's were the same as they NOW off the Sandy Hook Reef. This
reef is a short ride form Rockaway Inlet and Sheepshead Bay and just minutes outside Sandy
Hook and the Atlantic Highlands. We had quite a few requests for some Jersey based shows
and we are bringing them to you this season. However, that does not mean we forgot about
Long Island and Connecticut anglers. The tips, Fishing Rigs, diagrams,
and info on how to catch big blackfish can be used anywhere in the tri-state area! In this
show we debut a brand new anchor for wreck fishing, along with new computer generated
animation for anchoring techniques and of course we go over the hook choices, bait
choices, fishing techniques and some great boating and fishing tips of the week for you.
We also gave you a travelogue of the Sandy Hook and Shark River reefs, GPS & LORAN
numbers for both, info on a booklet you can get for the entire New Jersey Reef system and
as usual exciting action in this 30 minute show.
Show #2
Aired May 11
& October 26:
Stripers On Live Herring
:For
years I've been preaching not to put the boat away so early. There is some great action to
be had into January if you can take the cold and in reality, December is not usually that
cold. This show was filmed December 16th the day after striped bass season ended in 2001.
We'd had a great 2 week period where we caught as many bass as we had live herring baits
and the weather was in the 50's. I got the crew together and that Saturday night, a severe
cold front came through pushing winds from the northwest at 35 knots, plummeting the
temperatures by sunrise on Dec. 16th to 15 degree wind chills. We went ahead and filmed
the show catching lots of herring and then putting a dozen bass to 20 pounds in the boat
with double headers in NW winds of 15 to knots as we fished my home port of Jones Inlet.
As always we had detailed diagrams of the Fishing Rigs we used, how
to catch the bait (herring), how to rig the baits, where to find them in the rips
(diagrams) along with fishing techniques and of course we go over the hook choices and
some great boating and fishing tips.

:Our
third show of the season is a trip we took with my guests Jake Hartwick, Exec. VP of the
Outdoor Channel looking for large chopper bluefish on bait
and chum.We
shot the show in October where water temp's were just a few degrees warmer than they are
in May..so this action is heating up and will stay on 17 Fathoms all Summer and right through
the fall to Thanksgiving! This area of 17 Fathoms is 17 miles from Jones Inlet and about 6
miles from Sandy Hook, NJ. We had quite a few requests for some western Long Island and
Jersey based shows so this episode covers you both. In this show we have some heart
pounding action on BIG blues to 17 pounds along with tips, rigs, maps, charts, LORAN &
GPS numbers to where we were fishing with diagrams and info on how to catch big bluefish
that can be used anywhere in the tri-state area! Our guest Jake Hartwick of the Outdoor
Channel only caught 4-pound bluefish in the past and as you can imagine was quite
surprised and tired by trip's end.

hardcore fisherman and owner of West End Bait & Tackle in Long Beach,
NY. on this episode we go flounder fishing. That's right winter flounder in a show we
filmed just this past April. We wailed away on flounder and in just a couple of hours we
had 20 founder. We had quite a few requests for a winter flounder show and who better to
do it with than Joe, who loves his flattie fishing. In this show we have an important Boating Tip of the Week, flounder tips, Rigs, Maps, chumming info along with the secret Snafu-Rig guaranteed to
catch flounder. Who says flounder isn't what it used to be? It may not be bags buckets and
barrels anymore, but after this show...if you you follow our tips and put your time in on
the water you can have a great flounder day after all!

:To celebrate the opening of Black Bass season on Long Island the first Saturday
of June, our fifth show of the season is a trip we took to Lake Mahopac, NY for smallmouth
bass. This beautiful body of water lies approximately 55 miles north of NYC. If you do any
sort of half serious bass fishing in freshwater, you probably know about Mahopac already.
This is a premiere bass lake in lower NY State. My guest for the show is Pat Xiques, a pro
staff angler who lives on the lake itself. We shot the show the last day of November in
200 on a cold, cloudy 43 degree day with water temps hovering around 45 to 47
degrees. In the show we give you all the details of light line jigging smallmouth in deep,
cold 16 to 25-foot of water. We used 1/8-ounce hair jigs on light and ultralight tackle.
We also give you the casting techniques for using light jigs, Boating Tip of the Week, Fishing Tips and soon will have a

:This our seventh show of the 2002 season is a trip we took mid-May up in the
Hudson River for some big bass. We fished the area north of West Point between
Cornwall-On-The-Hudson and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. We used live eels for bass to 28
pounds in a very scenic and beautiful show with mountains and hills and some great colors
as this episode was shot in film. We fished with local resident and expert Joe Jordan of
Cornwall, NY and found some interesting differences and similarities to bass fishing with
eels. On this show up on the northern Hudson River, 50 miles north of NYC, we give you our
Area Map, fishing tips, the Rigs we used and
how to select the right one for the particular trip you may take to the Hudson River and

Eldred, NY Get-A-Way
:Our eighth
show of the 2002 season is our annual "Get Away" show in which
we fish within the tri-state region, but a little outside of the WLNY NY 55 viewing area,
although that is changing rapidly as the link to satellite has really expanded our reach.
Last year it was Lake Ontario and this year we stay within the Empire State on our visit
to the Eldred
Preserve in Eldred, NY. Eldred is in the lowerCatskill /upper
Hudson Valley region of NY. Eldred and this beautiful section of NY is a quick 2-1/2 hour
ride northwest of NYC southwest. It lies southwest of Monticello, NY and northwest of Port
Jervis just a short 10 minutes east of the NY-PA bridge #3 spanning the Delaware River on
Rte 55.Were visiting the Eldred Preserve as I
take my television crew on a working holiday. We stayed three days and shot the show in
one day, so the crew could fish, shoot target clays and enjoy the preserve's 3,000 acres
and her wonderful fun and other fine amenities. This show unfolds in a
couple of ways. First it gives our viewers another option for family summer get away
vacations and we teach you how to go about finding fish in any strange lake you've never
fished before at any vacation spot you may visit with tackle, lures and times of days to
fish, where to look for fish and of course our Boating Tips,
tackle segments, LIPA Tip and a good
look at the underwater world of a lake through our new underwater cameras! We
fished with the Eldred Preserve
fishing guide Bill
Albright and his friend Joe who doubled as camera boat for this two camera
shoot.

Forge Pond Largemouth
:This
week's show is a trip too the Peconic River system on Long Island and to
Forge Pond. The Peconic is a beautiful section of Long Island and the river
is actually spring fed and 15 miles long, exiting in Flanders Bay. My guest
and guide this week is Ben Lombardo, a tournament angler
from Massapequa, Long Island. Now before
you say I fished with him because they are sponsor...think again. Ben is one of the better bassers on Long Island and fishes Forge Pond 40 to 50 times each year for quite some time.
There are not many anglers who know this area better than Ben. On
this show we are fishing the sloppy weeds that fill Forge Pond and using a very slow
presentation, plastic worms and in particular Senko baits. We show you the rigging up
close, tackle we use, of course our weekly Boating Tip
and fishing tips you're accustomed to and some great action on some good size bigmouth
bass. We also give you the detailed Map and
point out the area we were fishing as we have no secrets here at "The Fishing
Line." The weather and water is very hot and the presentation must be perfect as we
fish the "grass." we interview Ben and he gives some really good insight into
this body of water and some inside tips on how to be successful on Forge Pond.

Back Bay Shallow Water Bucktail Fluke
:This week's show is a trip we took to the back bays and marshes of the western
Long Island South Shore area. The purpose of the show is to teach folks there are some
mighty impressive fluke in the back bays during the hot summer months. While most are
running to the main channels and ocean for fluke, there are some sharpies who continue to
work the back bay shallow flats and channel edges for big fluke...some over 10 pounds. My
guest is Artie Hoerning of the South Shore
Fish Market and Restaurant in Island Park, Long Island. Artie has fished the
back bays for five decades and boasts several fish over 9 pounds every summer working the
shallow water with 1/2 or 1/4-ounce bucktails and small spearing on light spinning tackle
and 10-pound test line. In this show we teach you how to "back troll" on the
channel edges and flats, how to take "ranges" of where you are so you don't need
LORAN or fish finders and by using Mother Nature's signals...keep yourself on the fish for
success with keeper fluke. We had eight keeper fluke on this half day trip with a high
keeper ratio! you'll get the usual Boating Tip of the Week, Tackle Segment, a special segment on Bucktail
Basics and much more! Click on this South Shore
Market link to meet Artie and see his market/restaurant.

Conversing With The Experts-Part 1
: This week's show is a
trip we took to Montauk for porgies. When I started The Fishing Line TV show
in 1995, we interviewed captains live on the air and shared fishing action on tape
with you. I went to Montauk to film a special episode of the show for our porgy fishermen
out there in this same format, but with two special captains...Capt. Paul Forsberg, owner
of the Viking Fleet in Montauk and Capt. Al Lindroth of the Capt. Al in Point Lookout. The
porgy fishing on our trip was non stop from our first drop right through and 90% of the
porgies were of keeper size with most on the trip running jumbo
and the fall run is
still months away! What makes this a special show is Paul and Capt. Al have been friends
for 55 years as Capt. Al was working deck for Pauls dad Carl Forsberg when Paul was
only eight years old. There are no two people I know of that know more about porgy fishing
than captains Paul Forsberg and Al Lindroth.
Youll see and share
in reminiscing stories and laughs of yesteryear, old black and white photos of their years
on the water for both the Viking and Capt. Al boats.
You get to watch them both on the show as these two
gurus of bottom fishing truly amaze us with their porgy and bottom fishing knowledge
as we do a sit down interview with them from Gosmans Dock in Montauk and carry the
interviews over to the water as we fished on the Viking Starship together. Well have
some great porgy fishing and underwater footage of the action too with full-page diagrams
of the special rigs they like to use. By the way there is no shortage of porgies on the
Capt. Al in Point Lookout. Very good fishing is what I have heard as they catch limits of
porgies as well. You'll get the usual Boating Tip of the Week, the captains Special Porgy Rigs and so much more it is unbelievable.

Surf Fishing Special: We've
put together a special Surf Fishing show for all
you surf rats...and just in time for our Annual
Surf Fishing Seminar each September on the second Thursday of the month. This
is the same regularly scheduled date used every year for the last 6-1/2 years. In this
special Surf Special, we go over how to read the beach, hook replacement, changing drag
washers, changing your spinning reel into a bail-less, manual retrieve spinning reel, some
exciting catches, bait migration explanations and we even "match the hatch,"
showing you the peanut bunker we encountered and how it matches with the rubber shad used
by many of you surfcasters. We go over the preferred tackle for the south shore of the
Island and sandy beaches of New Jersey, as we packed as much as we could into a short half
hour show on the huge topic of Surf Fishing. This is the first in a series of Surf Fishing
